Your World

LAW 1:

All human beings possess equal existential value.

Any conversation about Self-Action Leadership must begin with a categorical accession of the absolute existential equality of all human beings. This equality is fundamental, self-evident, and perennially vital. The holism of this inclusivity extends to both sexes and individuals of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, ideologies, lifestyles, etc.

My Story

In later chapters of this book, I attempt to teach SAL in part by sharing intricate details of my experiences with OCD, my misadventures with romance, and the ups and downs of my unorthodox career path. Before getting on to these chapters, I wish to preface them by providing a brief, autobiographical sketch my life’s story. This information serves as an introductory backdrop to other, more detailed stories to come, whereby I will vividly illustrate the principles of the SAL theory and model as I myself have attempted to live them.

My life, as with anyone’s life, is a story of the struggles to discipline one's response to life’s many problems, pains, perplexities, and failures. It is also a story of my growing success in meeting these challenges. This journey began as a toddler, as the following excerpt from my father’s journal illustrates:

The Power of Real-Life Stories

Among the various real-life anecdotes interspersed among the laws and corollaries of the SAL theory, you will find detailed inclusions of my own SAL story. In coming chapters I expose intricate particulars of my greatest fears, weaknesses, inadequacies, shortcomings, and failings. I will also share the successes that followed—made possible by a combination of SAL and Serendipity. From the highs and lows of my adventures with romance to the devastating symptoms of OCD; from the peaks and valleys of my career path to the specific action steps I took to earn Existential Growth, I lay bear my life’s rocky, yet rewarding, journey.

The Final Frontier of Your Own Potential

BOOK the SECOND

The Self-Action Leadership Theory

Self-Action Leadership Variables

Have you ever faced a debilitating challenge only to hear someone say: “You just need to think positively, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, and make it happen!” Over-simplifying human problems can be as problematic as over-complicating or ignoring them altogether. Self-Action Leadership does not translate into human omnipotence. Other variables, both internal and external, exist to produce a variety of human difficulties and problems, as well as opportunities and potential. There are at least 16 variables that produce limitations and benefits to your human potential. The life experiences of every human being are uniquely impacted by one’s own singular blend of these 16 variables.

The Power of Personal Experience

We live in a world where scientific inquiry and quantitative measurements form the basis of human knowledge. Nevertheless, we must not neglect the wisdom borne of personal experience and visceral wisdom in our quests to understanding truth and our own existential development. In truth, the biggest questions in life cannot be answered by science alone. If you choose to rely strictly on science for your understanding of reality, you forfeit rich storehouses of wisdom that can only be accessed internally and experientially.

Merry Christmas!

Dear Reader,

Without YOU, my work would be meaningless.

At this holiday season, I want to take the opportunity to thank you for your interest and support.  I hope you are finding these posts uplifting and applicable in your personal and professional lives.

Instead of trying to finish 'Book the First' before the New Year, I think everyone, including myself, can use a break over the holidays.  We'll get to the final two chapters in 2015, and then proceed to 'Book the Second' on through 'Book the Last' (fifth) in due time.

Beginning next year, I will be publishing on Tuesdays & Fridays instead of Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays.  My next blog post will arrive in your inbox on: Tues., January 6, 2015.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and God Bless,

-Dr. Jordan Jensen

A Moral Imperative

Self-Action Leadership is a derivative of self-leadership theory (more on this later). A key difference between Self Action Leadership (SAL), and plain old self-leadership (S-L), is that SAL theory invokes a moral imperative, while S-L theory is morally neutral—at least implicitly. SAL theory maintains that contributing to the long-term well-being of others is at least as important as earning Existential Growth yourself.

The Challenge & Quest to Become

This is no ordinary self-help book.

Ordinary self-help books focus on giving advice about what you must do to get something. Such books are typically transactional in nature, providing quid pro quo solutions (i.e. do this and you’ll get that).

Emancipation through Self-Action Leadership

Self-Action Leadership is an emancipator. It is the key that can release you from the ten shackles described in the previous chapter.

This chapter introduces a real-life story to illustrate the extent of SAL’s capacity to liberate you from whatever shackles are presently binding you down either personally or professionally. This story is not about fame, fortune, fabulously good luck, or overnight success, yet it is a success story. This story is about an imperfect, common human being who accomplished uncommon things through the conscious exercise of diligent, disciplined, and dedicated SAL over a period of nearly three decades.

Things that Enslave: Part 4

SHACKLE 8:
THE IRRESPONSIBLE CARE AND USE OF SEX

A couple of experiences I had as a 9th Grade English teacher in Houston, Texas, illustrate some of the negative, real-life consequences of sexual irresponsibility. The first experience occurred while teaching the designated novel for the year—a juvenile work of fiction entitled Speak, written by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book was the year’s most popular literary selection among students.

Things that Enslave: Part 3

SHACKLE 5:
ARROGANT PRIDE

Pride has many definitions and connotations; some are positive and some are negative. The pride of personal accomplishments realized through honesty and hard work is a positive thing. My use of the term in this section describes two different forms of pride, both of which are negative.
