FIVE (5) CENTURY MARK!
Freedom Focused Blog Article #500
I am pleased to announce that this blog post is Freedom Focused's FIVE HUNDREDTH published article since I first began blogging back in October 2013. I am also just 13 blogs shy of my THREE HUNDREDTH (#300) consecutive weekly blog article published since August 2020—a mark I will hit in the spring.
The achievement of private CONSISTENCY is always a fulfilling feeling and serves as its own reward, regardless of the public attention and acclaim (or lack thereof) you may receive for your efforts.
I am a big believer in the power and synergy derivable from a clear vision, a firm resolve, a dogged determination, a creative approach, and a simple consistency. On this fifth point specifically, a never-ending well of power and productivity exists in simply showing up and doing your DUTY—whatever that duty might entail—each and every day of your life. If you can then add resolve, determination, creativity, vision, and enough time to that consistency, the world is truly your oyster.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill 2-Time Prime Minister of the United Kingdom 1874-1965 |
I am also a firm believer that great things happen whenever you are willing to stick with "it" (whatever that it may be for you) and never give up.
In the words of one of my historical HEROES and MENTORS, Winston Churchill—the ultimate visionary and warrior...
"Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."
In the exhilarating Churchillian spirit of this great quote on determination and resiliency, I am looking forward to publishing the landmark SEVENTH Edition of my SAL Life Leadership textbook later this year. This work—begun in 2002 and most recently revised and updated over the past 2.5 years—is unquestionably the magnum opus of my life and career's work and is truly sui generis when compared with any other work I ever have—and likely ever will—write and/or publish in my lifetime.
If all goes according to plan, this freshly revised and extensively re-formatted (8.5 x 11-inch, double-columned, thin-paged, workbook friendly) Life Leadership BIBLE and traditional textbook on Personal Responsibility and Character Development will be newly published and available for purchase by the end of the year (2026).
In any discussion of Churchill's advice to "Never Give Up," it is worth emphasizing the vital importance of Churchill's clarifying caveat in his quote above (see BOLD lettered phrase).
Why is this caveat so important?
Because in the long run, consistence and determination can be damning—rather than a blessing—if your efforts and aims are not guided and balanced by "convictions of honour and good sense" and further steered by integrity, kindness, perspective, truth, virtue, feedback from others, et cetera. In fact, any "virtue" that is not properly balanced and bridled can enter evil extremes and morph malevolently (and ironically) into a vice.
For example, we've all met someone who never gives up trying to win an argument—even if their argument is biased, flawed, fruitless, incomplete, myopic, naive, selfish, shallow, unimportant, untimely, or even damaging to their relationships. Or, how about that person who keeps doing the same things over and over again while expecting different results? According to Einstein, that is the definition of insanity; and yet, have we not all fallen prey to both pitfalls at various times in our lives—perhaps even yesterday... or TODAY?
I know I have!
But I do strive—however imperfectly—to learn from my mistakes over time in order to make wise course corrections along the way in a never-ending quest to perpetually polish my persona and continually strengthen my character.
My Career Milestone as a Stay-at-Home Dad

JJ with the THREE (3) most important and valuable work projects of his entire career. Conroe (Houston) Texas 2019 |
Blog publication #500 is not the only special career milestone for me this week. This Thursday, January 15th, 2026, marks 10-years from when I retired from professional contract training and officially became a full-time STAY-at-Home-DAD back in early 2016. I taught my last professional training for SkillPath Seminars in Longview, Texas the day before, on Thursday, January 14th, 2016.
Little did I know in the fall of 2015, following on the heels of the publication of the 5th Edition of the SAL Life Leadership textbook, that the decade to come would mostly involve full-time stay-at-home parenting and part-time blogging in profound (albeit peaceful and prosperous) obscurity—as opposed to traveling the world, publicly promoting my work, helping millions to grow in their sense of personal responsibility and character development, and becoming rich and famous in the process.
But that is okay.
Why is it okay?
Because I already am rich in every way that really matters. Moreover, I question constantly whether I even want to become famous (be careful what you wish for).
Whatever ends up happening in the future, I know from countless experiences that life almost never goes exactly the way you initially hope for or plan—no matter how carefully you may strategize or how diligently you may strive. Indeed, it more often proves to be a profoundly unpredictable, painfully challenging, and seemingly circuitous experience.
On the other hand—and on the brighter side of life's ever-paradoxical coin—I have also discovered through my own enriching experiences that if you are are patient, faithful, and consistent, life can simultaneously be immensely rewarding and fulfilling. Plus, if you habitually choose the Road Less Traveled of Self-Action Leadership and Character Development, Serendipity has a remarkable way of turning everything to your good in the end, including the receipt of many blissfully unexpected surprises along the way
My Journey into the Blogosphere
 |
Putting pen to paper as part of my Pretend School. Mesa, Arizona Circa 1987-88 Age 7-8 |
I suppose my lifelong love of the written word probably extends back to the first time I saw letters in print, or the first time I picked up a pen or pencil. And though I was born before the age of personal computers, I recall first practicing my "typing" skills on a makeshift "laptop" creatively cobbled together in the late 1980s or early 1990s using a Battleship game board, white plastic pieces as letter and number keys, and a plastic aircraft carrier for my space bar.
When I was growing up, I recall my father mentioning on more than one occasion that the most important class he ever took in school was TYPING. This comment of his left a deep and lasting impression upon my young and thirsty mind. So much so, in fact, that when I finally got to take typing myself in ninth grade at Monticello High School in Monticello, Utah during the 1994-95 school year, I took it very seriously and worked at the skill tirelessly (including many hours outside of class) until I could type with ease, pleasure, and proficiency.
I agree unequivocally with Dad: In my own 19 years of formal schooling, Typing was the most important and valuable single class I ever took.
Because of my focus, diligence, and desire to become a skilled typist, I have been able to type upwards of 100 words per minutes (or more) for most of my life. This skill has served me very well from a personal, professional, educational, and relational standpoint.
In 2002, I got
my first
real laptop: an
Apple Macintosh. I have had four additional
Mac laptops since, upon which I have spent countless hours composing prose and poetry of all kinds until the letters begin wearing off and salient impressions begin imprinting the keys.
My ever-improving abilities in the art and science of language has placed me in positive stead with—and increased my competitive capacity among—countless others I have communicated and/or worked with over the years and decades.

JJ's first journal entry. Thursday, January 1, 1987 Mesa, Arizona |
A lifelong journaler, I penned my first journal entry on January 1, 1987. I was seven (7) years old and in first grade. I discovered early on that I had an interest in and talent for the use of langauge, both orally and in writing. Since those early days, I have invested tens of thousands of hours reading, studying, and practicing the art of crafting language—both prosaically and poetically.
My formal education includes a bachelor's degree in English and a Doctoral degree in Education, where I took advantage of many opportunities to further hone my compositional craft. Since earning my terminal academic degree, I have continued to write prolifically both personally (letters, emails, and texts) and professionally (textbooks, books, papers, and articles).
I published the first Freedom Focused Blog on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
Since that time, I have continued to publish blogs about Self-Action Leadership, and other related topics—and how these subjects help others to obtain personal and professional FREEDOM over time.
To CELEBRATE this landmark blogging achievement, I am proud to present LINKS to all 500 past blog articles below, all of them being available for download, FREE of charge...
